The Health Department continues to offer seasonal flu shots to anyone over the age of 6 months and seasonal FluMist® for healthy people ages 2 to 49 until supplies are exhausted.

Persons may walk-in to the Health Department, 401 Bow Street in Elkton, on Wednesdays from 8am to 11am and from 1pm to 3:30pm for the vaccination.

Getting the seasonal flu vaccine will not provide protection against the H1N1 flu. If adults or children receive the FluMist® form of the seasonal flu vaccination, they must wait 28 days before receiving the intranasal H1N1 vaccine. If they received the flu shot, there is NO waiting period.

The cost for both the FluMist® and the flu shot is $25. Cash, check, credit or debit card will be accepted as payment for the vaccine. However, no one will be denied service due to inability to pay.

Seasonal flu vaccine may also be available at many doctors’ offices or local pharmacies. Please check with your physician or pharmacist.

The Health Department advises that people help prevent the spread of seasonal flu by practicing the following measures:

  • Washing your hands often will help protect you from germs.
  • Stay home from work, school, and errands when you are sick. You will help prevent others from catching your illness.
  • Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when coughing or sneezing. Wash your hands right afterward. This may prevent those around you from getting sick.
  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick. When you are sick, keep your distance from others to protect them from getting sick too.
