Birth and Death Certificates

The Vital Records office can provide:

• Order Birth and Death Certificates Online
• Death certificates for those filed in Cecil county (up to 30 days from filing).

  • The Cecil County Health Department is now able to provide certified copies of birth certificates for persons born in Maryland from 1940 to present.

  • For persons born prior to 1940, certified copies of the birth records may continue to be obtained from the Division of Vital Records in Baltimore, Maryland (fee $12.00).

  • Birth Certificates may be issued to the person, parents, or guardians. The applicant must complete and application form, and pay the fee (currently at Cecil County Health Department, $20.00). Payment forms accepted are cash, check, VISA, MasterCard, American Express, and Discover.

  • In order to receive a certified copy of a birth certificate on the day of application (same day service), an applicant will be required to present valid, unexpired, government-issued photo identification. The identification must have a date issued and an expiration date.

  • Applicants who are unable to supply valid photo identification must present two (2) pieces of alternative documentation. The two pieces of alternative documentation must be different types, i.e., a pay stub and a telephone bill - not two pay stubs or two telephone bills. At least one of these documents must contain the applicant's current mailing address. Applicants who cannot provide valid photo identification will not be able to receive the birth certificate the same day. Their certificates must be mailed to the address displayed on the document(s) provided for identification.

    Acceptable documents are:

    • Social Security card
    • Current car registration
    • Letter from a government agency requesting a vital record
    • Utility bill with current address
    • Copy of income tax return/W-2 form
    • Pay stub
    • Bank statement
    • Lease/rental agreement
